Last, but not least (AIESEC story #5)

Especially, I had a great birthday there. On 24th of January, when I had a breakfast, my host family congratulates me, say best wishes, and present gifts for me. And when I accompany my Russian friend in her university, she congratulates me also by doing a birthday tradition, like hold my ears and pull it as much as my age. It was fun  . Yap, when I arrived in school, teacher and students also congratulate me. They did a wonderful birthday tradition, so they made a circle and I stand in the middle, then they sang a song for me  . after that, members of AIESEC LC Khabarovsk did it too, they congratulate, said best wishes to me, and gave so many presents. The special thing which is Russian traditional presents. What an awesome birthday in Khabarovsk.

Well, my step in AIESEC gave me much development as a personal and my daily life. In my Leadership role, of course I got many learning such as about human relationship, decision making, management, soft skills, developing my self more, etc. and exchange really change my life, as for me, my experience was not just introduce me about Russian people, but I know Malaysian, Korean, and China by how they service us. Of course, I got much learning in Khabarovsk, such as in public speaking, being an adaptable person, strict on my principle, be brave to say the right things, etc. last but not least my step in AIESEC still continue, to involve, contribute, and learn more.

these 5 series of stories definitely can not describe the whole story, of course the emotion, conflicts, and so on, within 4 years of my engagement in this organisation.

I would say, AIESEC is the best organisation to explore young people, due to the supportive condition. terms & condition applied: if you are actively contribute to the activities :)
but, you have to know that there's the time that you should graduated from this organisation, and actualize yourself in a broaden neighborhood. :)

Good luck!!

work hard and smiles a lot ^^ (AIESEC story #4)

My project was DT , named “Youth Perspective” and CEED in Expansion LC Khabarovsk. In my second day, I visited the school where will be my current school along 4 weeks. It was so nice to meet many smiley and friendly people, whether the teacher or the students.

Along 4 weeks, I had a different theme for every week, my first week become a ‘halo Indonesia’ week. In this time, I have a presentation to introduce Indonesia. Many of students don’t know where is Indonesia and never heard about it, some students know bali island but don’t know that Bali is located in Indonesia, and some of them know where is Indonesia. Well, that was my pleasure to introduce my beloved country, Indonesia. In the second week, the theme was intercultural activities. So, we had a discussion more about custom, music instrument, teenage, and education system in Indonesia. In the third weeks, I had halo to my Indonesian friend as the theme, because we had a plan to make a conference between Russian student and my friends in Indonesia.

Well, in this week, I show Indonesian dance, sing Indonesian song, had a presentation and discussion about sub-culture, and the way of manner in Indonesia. In the fourth week, I had a global village week. That was the time went the students show me a Russian fairytale, and they bring some Russian food to be introduced to me, of course I tried it all. And I brought some Indonesian food for them. Last but not least, many of students gave me a letter with a beautiful word and design. It’s so loveable.

About CEEDer, that was my time to develop my self more by developing another people. I met with many of great people, why? Because they are the pioneer of AIESEC in Khabarovsk. In my first week, I had a small meeting with the LCP (Dima) to make a plan about promo and new team for new term. It was also the time when there was an open recruitment for LCP, VP OGX, ICX, and TM. Two weeks after the small meeting, we had a conference where I took a part to share about AIESEC history. In that conference, some candidates for LCP, VP OGX, ICX, and TM have their speech in front of the member. And it was chosen the new LCP, she is Anna. Then the previous LCP, the LCP elected, and me interview the candidates of VP. It was so nice to involve in many activities with them, and then finally, they announced the new VP TM, ICX, OGX, and head mentor. Beside that, we have a promotion time, I did a presentation and discussion in schools, such as school number 3, 6, 32, 49, ‘opening’ , manhattan, Rovestnik, and ELC. And also discussion in universities such as Humanitarian University, Pacific state university, Far eastern academic of service, Economic and law, and … . I had also a great discussion in American corner office about “Stereotypes of Russia”. I also join in the social activities that concern in environment, invited by the major of Khabarovsk.

Yes, we spoke in TV for two times. wohoo!

Especially, I had a great birthday there. On 24th of January, when I had a breakfast, my host family congratulates me, say best wishes, and present gifts for me. And when I accompany my Russian friend in her university .. (to be continued)

sweet n bitter of transit(s)ing in some countries (AIESEC story #3)

The day was coming, January 16th 2011. I flight to Kuala Lumpur from Surabaya at 6 a.m. , and I arrived there save. But then, I got a problem with my next flight. I can’t continue it because I have no visa for transiting in Korea. What? Okay, then I know that my choice was wrong. This flight company do not give me ‘full service’ as another flight company, they just ‘connected flight’ from one country to another. Another learning for me, to be aware of choosing the flight company. There was the time when I felt so terrible, I tried to do all the ways, but I felt that jus few people can understand us in English, we don’t know where to go, no battery for laptop and we can’t find any plug, yeah, totally stuck.

The next day in Kuala lumpur, we went to Korean embassy to ask some information about it and they said we do not have to have a visa just for transiting. Really? Yes. And we went back to the airport with our big luggage, and they finally want to help us if we re-pack our luggage become a hand carriage. Well, okay, we’ll do it. Then we’ll go to korea in the 3rd day, finally. One night in Korea, and we fly to Khabarovsk. When I arrived there, I was in very terrible condition because of previous days accident. But then, AIESEC member of LC Khabarovsk welcome me so well, I felt so surprise with that. And I felt comfort when I had some rest in my host family.

Yap, this is my first time to stay so far away from my parents and will find many different things around me. I felt so interesting of everything. The weather was so cold, about -20 and more. But I like it very much, so many snow around me  . there, I lived in a host family who are very nice to me. They trust me by gave me the key of the house. So I can go back home if I finish from my activities earlier than them. They taught me how to be a brave girl, say what I need to say in the right time. We always have a discussion time on supper. By the way, if we have breakfast, lunch and dinner, then in Russia has breakfast, dinner, and supper . Yap, we discuss, share, and tell many things in mix languages (Russian and English). It makes me eager to learn Russian language, by listen, remember, and practice. Well, they really show me many part of Khabarovsk, by going to some museums, bought me music and ski dance ticket concert, went to Dacca (summer house), made a Blini (Russian pancake), and nany village museum. That was my lovely host family.

finally! Hallo Russia (AIESEC story #2)

First, I had a plan to go to Turkey. So, I try to email many LC in Turkey to ask about projects that they provide to interns. I sent it many times and there was no replied, even after wait for many days. As time goes by, I got some information from many EP returnee that there were some rules in Turkey related to religion, which is inconvenient me and makes me canceled to go to Turkey. My VP OGX offers me to go to Russia, I think why not? Because Russia will be in winter on January, and they have a different culture, different people, language, etc that it will be interesting to be there. Thus, I started to contact the AIESEC member of Russia. Yes, I connected with manager of Expansion AIESEC Russia. She replied my email actively, answer my entire questions and explain the project clearly.

After I had been interviewed by her, everything just goes with the flow. While waiting, I propose some fund proposal to some banks, government companies, university, and faculty. Yeah, they help me by giving mount of money. Beside that, when people around that I want to go to Russia, they said about some stereotypes about Russia, such as very cold and hot which is causes of dying people. It’s very dangerous country, there we can be kidnapped by the mafia, and also about people without any smile in their face. See? What kind a country is that?, it makes me afraid and curious in the same time. But I just decided to go.

About 6 months before I go for exchange, I spend lot of time in front of my computer. To connected with people in Russia , prepare all the internship material, and prepare the proposal for my internship subject in my faculty.
The day was coming, January 16th 2011. I flight to .. (to be continued )
